The exact N-soliton solutions are derived for the coupled negative first order Klein-Gordon (CNKG) equation subject to vanishing boundary conditions by using the inverse scattering method via Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko equation. Based on the zero-curvature representation, the conservation laws, integrals of motion, and Hamiltonian structure of the aforementioned coupled nonlinear equations are constructed. The Jost functions and their analyticity properties for the Manakov spectral problem are recalled. The integral equations for the eigenfunctions are then used to formulate the Gel'fand-Levitan-Marchenko equations. Solving these equations establishes a direct correspondence between the kernel functions and the potential, yielding the general N-soliton expressions.

Fu and Nijhoff's direct linearization scheme for the KP hierarchy and its reductions employs a system of evolution equations of an infinite matrix $U$ with quadratic nonlinearity. Part of the matrix elements of $U$ can be identified with affine coordinates $w_{ij}$ of the top cell of the Sato Grassmannian. The evolution equations of these matrix elements are identical to the evolution equations of $w_{ij}$ representing the KP hierarchy in geometric terms. This geometric interpretation can be extended to other matrix elements of $U$ by introducing negative flows to the evolution equations of $U$. The extended system turns out to be substantially equivalent to the two-component KP hierarchy. The Cauchy matrix approach to the KP hierarchy can be explained in this geometric perspective. Multi-component generalizations of Fu and Nijhoff's nonlinear system are related to the AKNS and ASDYM hierarchies. Multi-component Sato Grassmannians show up therein as the relevant geometric structure.

We study the finite-genus algebro-geometric solutions of the Wadati-Konno-Ichikawa (WKI) equation with the saturable nonlinearity and long-time asymptotic behaviors of their short-range perturbations. First, for both the focusing and defocusing reductions, we formulate the finite-genus Baker-Akhiezer functions as explicitly solvable the matrix Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problems on the complex spectral plane and obtain theta-function representations together with the reconstruction formulae for the WKI field and the reciprocal coordinate. We then consider the Cauchy problem of the defocusing WKI equation on a finite-genus algebro-geometric background. We construct the scattering data and RH problem, and perform a Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent analysis. The space-time plane is divided into two transition regions, a Zakharov-Manakov (ZM) region, and a fast-decay region. The leading term is a phase-shifted finite-genus WKI solution. The transition corrections are governed by a Painlevé-XXXIV model, while the ZM radiation is described by parabolic-cylinder functions. The reciprocal-coordinate asymptotics are obtained simultaneously.

We construct novel higher-order lump solutions of the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-I (mKP-I) equation by applying the generalized long-wave limit method with spectral perturbations. By tuning the phase parameters in the soliton solution, we obtain second- and third-order lump solutions, which, to the best of our knowledge, are reported here for the first time for the mKP-I equation. A detailed asymptotic analysis reveals that these degenerate lumps exhibit anomalous scattering analogous to that in the KP-I equation. However, in contrast to the KP-I case, no complete energy equipartition occurs after the collision, and the two lumps remain distinguishable in the subleading terms of their asymptotic amplitudes. This distinction highlights a difference in the interaction dynamics between the modified and standard KP-I equations.

In this paper, we investigate the integrability of Lotka-Volterra (replicator) systems arising from interaction matrices generated from corresponding graph structures, continuing work started by Visomirski and Griffin [J. Phys. A., 58:015701, 2025] and Evripidou et al. [J. Phys. A., 55:325201, 2022] (among others). In particular, we define a new family of graphs, the spoked graphs, and show that all dynamics generated from this family are integrable. In reference to Evripidou et al. (2022), we define a new anti-cloning operator and show that its action on balanced tournament graphs (with odd vertex count) generates new graphs whose dynamics are integrable. Interestingly, we provide numerical evidence that this anti-cloning operation leads to chaotic behaviour when applied to other graph families (e.g., the directed cycles that generate the classically integrable Volterra lattice). This work completes a taxonomy of all integrable dynamics generated by directed graphs with up to six vertices started by Visomirski and Griffin (2025), and suggests several future directions of study on this topic.

In this work, we derive selection rules imposed by Liouville integrability conditions for monomial charge densities with arbitrary powers. For a certain monomial Hamiltonian system, the selection rules reduce to a negative Pell equation, and its solutions generate an infinite set of integrals of motion that are mutually in involution. Furthermore, we study the correspondence between combinatorial polynomial sequences and Liouville integrable Hamiltonian field theories in 1+1 dimensions. We show that the Motzkin system coincides with the dispersionless limit of the Levi system, while the binomial system is equivalent to the dispersionless derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Additionally, we show that the binomial Hamiltonian model admits a reduction to the inviscid Burgers equation and its higher-order charges generate generalized Burgers-type conservation laws.

Bernoulli-type waveforms for modified Emden nonlinear oscillators of arbitrary natural power $q$ are obtained through a generalized commutative factorization approach. These oscillators display a well-defined odd-even dynamical dichotomy, which is discussed in detail: the odd-$q$ cases entail isochronous oscillators whose period $T = 2π/ω$ is independent of amplitude and initial conditions, while the even-$q$ cases display underdamped behavior. The Lagrangian formulation is presented in the Lurie's dissipative description. The isochronous regime and the period of the solutions in the odd case are also confirmed through a generalized polar-coordinate analysis in the spirit of Sabatini's work. The absence of periodic orbits for even $q$ is shown to be a consequence of the Bendixson-Dulac criterion applied to the radial velocity function. Explicit waveforms and their phase portraits are presented for $q = 1, 2, 3, 4$, along with the non exponential envelope formulas for the damped cases and singular-region bounds for the isochronous ones. A few possible applications are also mentioned.

A class of elliptic solutions to the matrix CKP equation is studied. Equations of motion for their poles and matrix coefficients at the poles are obtained. As in the scalar case, they are of the first order, in contrast to what takes place in the KP and BKP hierarchies, where the equations of motion are of the second order.

We investigate Hamiltonian curl-force systems with indefinite kinetic energy. We first reconsider Berry's polynomial Hamiltonian curl-force model, whose numerically observed closed trajectories motivated an integrability conjecture. A Painlevé analysis yields a non-principal resonance spectrum, so that the corresponding Laurent series cannot accommodate the required number of arbitrary constants of the general solution. The model therefore fails the standard Painlevé test. We then introduce a four-parameter curl-force family and identify the parameter locus on which this system is integrable. We construct a second Hamiltonian, compatible Poisson tensors, separated complex characteristic variables, and a Lax representation. More generally, the separated form yields polynomial integrable curl-force Hamiltonians of arbitrary degree. We also show that the same construction admits a higher time-derivative potentialisation whose free limit is the degenerate Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator. Finally, we analyse zero-curl invariant reductions and elliptic periodic solutions, and exhibit an isolated periodic orbit outside the integrable regime. This illustrates that closed trajectories alone do not imply Liouville or Painlevé integrability.

In this paper, we investigate the long-time asymptotics for the solution of the Cauchy problem of the defocusing Hirota equation on a finite-genus algebro-geometric background in the whole $(x,t)$-half-plane, whose method is mainly based on a Riemann-Hilbert (RH) formulation and Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method. The critical values of the phase function in the associated RH problem divide the space-time plane into four regions, in which the leading-order term is given by a phase-shifted finite-genus algebro-geometric solution. The subleading behavior depends on the region: the correction is of order $t^{-1/3}$ and is governed by a Painlevé-XXXIV model RH problem in the transition regions; the leading radiation is of order $t^{-1/2}$ in the Zakharov--Manakov region; and the error is $O(t^{-1})$ in the fast-decay region. These results can also be extended to other higher-order members of the AKNS hierarchy.

Known integrable systems with noncommutative dependent variables are typically formulated over free associative algebras, quantum algebras, or Grassmann algebras. For differential-difference integrable equations, we identify a new class of noncommutative algebras that is compatible with the dynamics and can be positioned between quantum and free algebras. In this brief communication, we consider reductions of the nonabelian Volterra hierarchy to new algebras. This approach extends to a broad class of integrable systems, including the Toda lattice, the Ablowitz-Ladik system, and many others.

Asymptotic equivalence between the quasi-Grammian and quasi-Wronskian representations of $N$-soliton solutions in the $J$-matrix formulation of the anti-self-dual Yang-Mills (ASDYM) equation is established up to a constant matrix factor. This formulation, known as the Yang equation, serves as the equation of motion of the four-dimensional Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW$_4$) model and is equivalent to the ASDYM equation. To visualize the solitonic behavior, the action density of the WZW$_4$ model is evaluated for $\mathrm{G}=\mathrm{U}(2)$, demonstrating that the quasi-Grammian and quasi-Wronskian representations exhibit the same asymptotic soliton profiles, while the phase shift factors associated with $N$-soliton collisions are obtained explicitly. Hence, by virtue of the particle-like nature of solitons, the two representations describe the same class of ASDYM $N$-soliton solutions. These solitons can be regarded as a four-dimensional analogue of KP/KdV-type multi-solitons in fluid dynamics, suggesting a possible connection between the ASDYM equation and higher-dimensional Sato theory. Exact quasi-Grammian $N$-soliton solutions are also presented for $N\leq4$.

We collect rank two difference-differential Lax pairs for classical Painlevé equations in the literature and put each in $2\times 2$ matrix form with the coefficient matrix of the spectral equation a degree two matrix polynomial. We describe and apply a general method to obtain integrals of motion in characteristic $p$ from these Lax pairs. For every relevant Painlevé equation, this leads to a countable list of integrals of motion, with one entry for each prime $p$.

This paper investigates the N-elliptic localized solutions of the Foka-Lenells equation. Based on the corresponding Lax pair, the Weierstrass elliptic functions are adopted to construct the elliptic function solutions and the fundamental solution matrix of the equation. The N-elliptic localized solutions are further derived via the N-fold Darboux-Backlund transformation. By virtue of the Cauchy determinant expressed with sigma functions, the asymptotic behaviors of the obtained solutions are systematically analyzed along and between their propagation directions, and the symmetry properties of these solutions are established.

This paper introduces a family of natural generalizations of the pentagram map from polygons to (twisted) polyhedra and proves their integrability through the partial difference operators. A canonical special case, which corresponds to the discrete Laplace transformation of discrete conjugate nets, is investigated in detail. We first establish a canonical bijection between the projective equivalence classes of these polyhedra in $\mathbb{RP}^3$ and the spectral data of doubly periodic partial difference operators modulo the gauge actions. Furthermore, we prove the complete integrability of these pentagram-type maps by explicitly identifying them with the refactorization maps on the Poisson-Lie group of pseudo partial difference operators. This algebraic identification naturally yields an explicit Lax representation and an $r$-matrix induced Poisson bracket for the geometric dynamics.

The generalized Yang-Baxter equations are multi-site versions of the standard Yang-Baxter equation. When spectral parameters are included, such equations are expected to lead to integrable Hamiltonians with local interactions involving multiple degrees of freedom. In this work we characterize both the continuous and discrete symmetries of these equations required to establish an equivalence class of solutions. We find that the set of such symmetries depend on the number of sites on which the equation is supported. In several cases there are more symmetries than the standard Yang-Baxter equation, thus placing heavy constraints on the number of inequivalent solutions and the associated integrable models.

We study noncommutative analogues and integrable discretisations of nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS)-type systems associated with reduction groups. In particular, we consider the Ablowitz--Kaup--Newell--Segur (AKNS) system, the Kaup--Newell derivative NLS system, and the Mikhailov--Shabat--Yamilov deformation of the derivative NLS system together with their Darboux--Bäcklund transformations and associated lattice equations. We derive the continuum limits of previously constructed integrable lattice systems and recover the corresponding NLS-type partial differential equations. We then construct a noncommutative deformation of the Mikhailov--Shabat--Yamilov system and show that, unlike the AKNS and Kaup--Newell cases, its Lax representation requires the introduction of nonlocal variables. Furthermore, we derive Darboux--Bäcklund transformations and integrable discretisations for the noncommutative derivative NLS and deformation derivative NLS systems in the form of vertex--bond lattice equations. We also construct explicit solutions for a six-point derivative NLS-type lattice equation and for its noncommutative analogue.

We investigate trilinear structures as a natural extension of the Hirota bilinear formalism in integrable systems. While bilinear equations are associated with Grassmannian geometry and Plücker relations, trilinear equations suggest a higher algebraic structure involving three-slot couplings of tau functions. Focusing on the stationary axisymmetric Einstein equations, we show that when the Ernst potential is written in a tau-ratio form, the nonlinear equation decomposes into a cubic sector containing all second-derivative terms and a quartic gradient envelope. The cubic sector is identified with a YTSF-type trilinear kernel. We formulate a general trilinear kernel criterion and apply it to the Tomimatsu--Sato solutions. In particular, we demonstrate that the $δ=3$ solution possesses the same trilinear kernel structure as the $δ=2$ case, with a universal normalization up to a constant factor. These results suggest that the trilinear kernel represents a universal structure governing the highest-derivative sector of the Ernst system, providing a new perspective on integrability beyond the bilinear hierarchy.

Differential-difference matrix Lax representations (Lax pairs), gauge transformations, and discrete Miura-type transformations (MTs) belong to the main tools in the theory of (nonlinear) integrable differential-difference equations. For a given equation, two matrix Lax representations (MLRs) are said to be gauge equivalent if one of them can be obtained from the other by applying a matrix gauge transformation. Generalizing and extending several previous works on MLRs and MTs, we present new results on the following problems: - When and how can one simplify a given MLR by means of gauge transformations? - How can one use MLRs and gauge transformations for constructing MTs? - A MLR is called fake if it is gauge equivalent to a trivial MLR. How to determine whether a given MLR is not fake? We consider the general (1+1)-dimensional evolutionary differential-difference case when a MLR can depend on any shifts of dependent variables and can be non-autonomous. As applications and illustrations of the presented general theory, we construct several new two-component integrable equations (with new MLRs) connected by new MTs to known integrable equations from the papers [S. Positive and negative flows of the Chen-Lee-Liu model and its various reductions, including Burgers hierarchy, are formulated within the framework of Riemann-Hilbert-Birkhoff decomposition with the constant grade two generator. Two classes of vacua, namely zero vacuum and constant non-zero vacuum can be realized within a centerless Heisenberg algebra. The tau functions for soliton solutions are obtained by a dressing method and vertex operators are constructed for both types of vacua. We are able to select and classify the soliton solutions in terms of the type of vertices involved. A judicious choice of vertices yields in a closed form a particular set of multi soliton solutions for the Burgers hierarchy. We develop and analyze a class of gauge-Bäcklund transformations that generate further multi soliton solutions from those obtained by dressing method by letting them interact with various integrable defects.

Integrability conditions on local Hamiltonians for one-dimensional quantum systems to be free and interacting fermions are introduced. The definition of free fermion is the simultaneous satisfaction of the Yang-Baxter equation and Shastry's decorated star-triangle relation by the $R$-matrix, which is more general than the previous `free-fermion algebra' by Maassarani and more special than free fermions as in the context of exactly solvable quantum models or integrable classical two-dimensional vertex models dual to quantum spin chains. Free fermionic $R$-matrices are of the difference form and have a conjugation symmetry. These free Hamiltonians may sometimes be deformed by the conjugation operator to describe an integrable interacting system with non-relativistic $R$-matrices, as are the cases of the Hubbard model and the XY model in a longitudinal field. A further criterion is obtain on precisely when such deformations remain integrable. A practical procedure is proposed to iteratively solve the free fermionic $R$-matrices from local Hamiltonians, which can be used to construct non-relativistic $R$-matrices if the conditions are met.

We investigate an interacting Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator with a Landau-Ginzburg type interaction term and analyse its classical dynamics from a geometric and numerical point of view. We show that the resulting fourth-order equation of motion admits a conformal bi-Hamiltonian formulation, possesses a non-trivial set of Lie symmetries and we demonstrate the existence of bounded and regular trajectories in representative parameter regimes. By establishing an explicit correspondence with an integrable generalised Hénon-Heiles system, we show that the interacting higher-derivative dynamics inherits the integrability properties of the latter. This connection allows us to construct a second conserved Hamiltonian, to clarify the geometric origin of separability, and to obtain explicit classical solutions in terms of elliptic functions. Our results provide a concrete example of an interacting higher-derivative system for which integrability and periodic classical solutions can be established in a fully explicit manner.

We develop a geometric and analytic framework for polynomial partial differential equations posed on thin annuli in the plane. Using renormalized Sobolev inner products, we construct Sobolev orthogonal polynomial bases adapted to the thin geometry and use them to define stable Galerkin approximations. We prove a general dimension-reduction theorem for polynomial Hamiltonian and dissipative PDEs, showing that solutions converge to effective one-dimensional dynamics on the limiting circle. Beyond the leading-order limit, we identify transverse defect correctors and derive cell problems describing anisotropic dispersive and homogenized effects. Our framework applies uniformly to integrable models (KdV, modified KdV, nonlinear Schrödinger, sine--Gordon), anisotropic dispersive systems such as Zakharov--Kuznetsov, and non-integrable perturbations including dissipation, forcing, and rapidly oscillating coefficients. We establish stability of the effective dynamics under changes of Sobolev order and of polynomial Hilbert geometry, and show robustness of the associated Galerkin schemes. The results provide a unified geometric perspective on dimension reduction, homogenization, and integrability in thin geometries, and introduce Sobolev orthogonal polynomial methods as a constructive tool for multiscale PDE analysis.

We investigate conservation laws of the two-dimensional Zakharov--Kuznetsov (ZK) equation, a natural higher-dimensional and non-integrable extension of the Korteweg--de Vries equation. The ZK equation admits three scalar conserved quantities -- mass, momentum, and energy -- represented as $I_1$, $I_2$, and $I_3$, as well as a vector-valued quantity $\bm{I}_4$. In high-accuracy numerical simulations on a finite double-periodic domain, most of these quantities are well preserved, while a systematic temporal drift is observed only in the $x$-component $I_{4x}$. We show that the nontrivial evolution of $I_{4x}$ originates from an explicit boundary-flux contribution, which is induced by fluctuations of the solution and its spatial derivatives at the domain boundaries. We successfully identify the source of the inaccuracy in the numerical solutions. Motivated by this analysis, we define a modified center-of-mass quantity $I_{4x}^{\mathrm{mod}}$ and demonstrate its conservation numerically for single-pulse configurations. The modified quantity thus provides a consistent conservation law for the ZK equation and yields an appropriate description of center-of-mass motion in finite-domain numerical simulations.

We establish quadratic Poisson brackets for the generalized Camassa--Holm peakon structure introduced in \cite{AFR23}. The calculation is based on the halving of the spectral parameter dependent $r$-matrix used to define the linear Poisson structure of this model. This quadratic structure, together with the linear one, establish the bi-Hamiltonian structure of the generalized Camassa--Holm peakon model. \\ When the deformation parameter tends to $\pm2$, the spectral parameter dependence drops out, and we recover the linear and quadratic Poisson structure of the Camassa--Holm peakon model. \\ When the spectral parameter tends to the fixed points of the involution defining the halving, we recover the Ragnisco--Bruschi deformation of the Camassa--Holm peakon model, thereby establishing its quadratic Poisson structure.

The Lax integrability structure that emerges from their definition is so constraining that it allows for writing down an explicit general solution for prescribed initial data, and at the same time, the dynamics is highly nontrivial and involves turbulent energy transfer to arbitrarily short wavelengths. The quantum version of the same Hamiltonian is even more striking: not only the Hamiltonian itself, but also its associated conserved hierarchies display purely integer spectra, indicating a structure beyond ordinary quantum integrability. Here, we initiate a systematic study of this quantum system by presenting a mixture of analytic results and empirical observations on the structure of its eigenvalues and eigenvectors, conservation laws, ladder operators, etc.

We present a novel approach for constructing quasi-isospectral higher-order Hamiltonians from time-independent Lax pairs by reversing the conventional interpretation of the Lax pair operators. Instead of treating the typically second-order $L$-operator as the Hamiltonian, we take the higher-order $M$-operator as the starting point and construct a sequence of quasi-isospectral operators via intertwining techniques. This procedure yields a variety of new higher-order Hamiltonians that are isospectral to each other, except for at least one state. We illustrate the approach with explicit examples derived from the KdV equation and its extensions, discussing the properties of the resulting operators based on rational, hyperbolic, and elliptic function solutions. In some cases, we present infinite sequences of quasi-isospectral Hamiltonians, which we generalise to shape-invariant differential operators capable of generating such sequences. Our framework provides a systematic mechanism for generating new integrable systems from known Lax pairs.

The proof is based on the use of symmetries of the full symmetric system, which we described earlier in \cite{CSS23}, and the appearance of the structure of the stochastic Lie algebra in their description.

We study the integrability of the quantized six-vertex model with four parameters on a torus. It is a three-dimensional integrable lattice model in which a layer transfer matrix, depending on two spectral parameters associated with the homology cycles of the torus, can be defined not only on the square lattice but also on more general graphs. For a class of graphs that we call admissible, we establish the commutativity of the layer transfer matrices by introducing four types of tetrahedron equations and two types of inversion relations. Expanding in the spectral parameters yields a family of commuting quantum Hamiltonians. The quantized six-vertex model can also be reformulated in terms of (quantized) dimer models, and encompasses known integrable systems as special cases, including the free parafermion model and the relativistic Toda chain.

In this paper we discuss the relation between the functions that give first integrals of full symmetric Toda system (an important Hamilton system on the space of traceless real symmetric matrices) and the vector fields on the group of orthogonal matrices: it is known that this system is equivalent to an ordinary differential equation on the orthogonal group, and we extend this observation further to its first integrals. As a by-product we describe a representation of the Lie algebra of $B^+(\R)$-invariant functions on the dual space of Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_n(\R)$ (under the canonical Poisson structure) by vector fields on $SO_n(\R)$.

The Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, originally a three dimensional mathematical model of plasma with a uniform magnetic field, is a direct extension of the KdV equation into higher dimensions and is a typical quasi-integrable system. Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) are used to study the collision of soliton solutions in the 2+1 dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. PINNs are able to successfully solve the equations in the forward process, and the solutions are obtained using a mesh-free approach and automatic differentiation, taking into account conservation laws. In the inverse process, the proper form of the equation can be successfully derived from a given training data. However, the situation becomes intractable in the collision process. The forward analysis result no longer adheres to the laws of conservation, and is better described as a dynamically incompatible field configuration (DIFC) than a solution to the system. Conservative PINNs have thus been introduced for this purpose, and in this paper we succeed in obtaining solutions that satisfy conservation laws. The inverse analysis suggests a different equation in which the coefficients exhibit significant changes, implying an emergence of temporary interactions. With these modulated coefficients, we recalculate the equation and confirm that the adherence to the laws of conservation has unquestionably improved.

We propose an extension of the Goncharov-Kenyon class of cluster integrable systems by their Hamiltonian reductions. This extension allows us to fill in the gap in cluster construction of the $q$-difference Painlevé equations, showing that all of them can be obtained as deautonomizations of the reduced Goncharov-Kenyon systems. Conjecturally, the isomorphisms of reduced Goncharov-Kenyon integrable systems are given by mutations in another, dual in some sense, cluster structure. These are the polynomial mutations of the spectral curve equations and polygon mutations of the corresponding decorated Newton polygons. In the Painlevé case the initial and dual cluster structures are isomorphic. It leads to self-duality between the spectral curve equation and the Painlevé Hamiltonian, and also extends the symmetry from affine to elliptic Weyl group.

We investigate the effect of the breaking of integrability in the integrals of motion of a sine-Gordon-like system. The class of quasi-integrable models, discussed in the literature, inherits some of the integrable properties they are associated with. Our strategy, to investigate the problem through a deformation of the so-called inverse scattering method, has proven to be useful in the discussion of generic nonlinear Klein-Gordon potentials, as well as in particular cases presented here.

The Lax pair for the field analogue of the classical spin elliptic Calogero-Moser is proposed. Namely, using the previously known Lax matrix we suggest an ansatz for the accompany matrix. The presented construction is valid when the matrix of spin variables ${\mathcal S}\in{\rm Mat}(N,\mathbb C)$ satisfies the condition ${\mathcal S}^2=c_0{\mathcal S}$ with some constant $c_0\in\mathbb C$. It is proved that the Lax pair satisfies the Zakharov-Shabat equation with unwanted term, thus providing equations of motion on the unreduced phase space. The unwanted term vanishes after additional reduction. In the special case ${\rm rank}(\mathcal S)=1$ we show that the reduction provides the Lax pair of the spinless field Calogero-Moser model obtained earlier by Akhmetshin, Krichever and Volvovski.

We investigate the evolution of localized initial value profiles when propagated in integrable versions of higher time-derivative theories. In contrast to the standard cases in nonlinear integrable systems, where these profiles evolve into a specific number of N-soliton solutions as dictated by the conservation laws, in the higher time derivative theories the theoretical prediction is that the initial profiles can settle into either two-soliton solutions or into any number of N-soliton solutions. In the latter case this implies that the solutions exhibit oscillations that spread in time but remain finite. We confirm these analytical predictions by explicitly solving the associated Cauchy problem numerically with multiple initial profiles for various higher time-derivative versions of integrable modified Korteweg-de Vries equations. In the case with the theoretical possibility of a decay into two-soliton solutions, the emergence of underlying singularities may prevent the profiles from fully developing or may be accompanied by oscillatory, chargeless standing waves at the origin.

In this letter, we revisit the quantisation problem for a fundamental model of classical mechanics - the Zhukovsky-Volterra top. We have discovered a four-parametric pencil of compatible Poisson brackets, comprising two quadratic and two linear Poisson brackets. Using the quantisation ideal method, we have identified two distinct quantisations of the Zhukovsky-Volterra top. The first type corresponds to the universal enveloping algebras of $so(3)$, leading to Lie-Poisson brackets in the classical limit. The second type can be regarded as a quantisation of the four-parametric inhomogeneous quadratic Poisson pencil. We discuss the relationships between the quantisations obtained in our paper, Sklyanin's quantisation of the Euler top, and Levin-Olshanetsky-Zotov's quantisation of the Zhukovsky-Volterra top.

The paper is devoted to $N$-wave equations with constant boundary conditions related to symplectic Lie algebras. We study the spectral properties of a class of Lax operators $L$, whose potentials $Q(x,t)$ tend to constants $Q_\pm$ for $x\to \pm \infty$. For special choices of $Q_\pm$ we outline the spectral properties of $L$, the direct scattering transform and construct its fundamental analytic solutions. We generalise Wronskian relations for the case of CBC -- this allows us to analyse the mapping between the scattering data and the $x$-derivative of the potential $Q_x$. Next, using the Wronskian relations we derive the dispersion laws for the $N$-wave hierarchy and describe the NLEE related to the given Lax operator.

Integrability of N=1 supersymmetric Ruijsenaars-Schneider three-body models based upon the potentials W(x)=2/x, W(x)=2/sin(x), and W(x)=2/sinh(x) is proven. The problem of constructing an algebraically resolvable set of Grassmann-odd constants of motion is reduced to finding a triplet of vectors such that all their scalar products can be expressed in terms of the original bosonic first integrals. The supersymmetric generalizations are used to build novel integrable (iso)spin extensions of the respective Ruijsenaars-Schneider three-body systems.

We demonstrate that the complexification procedure followed by a restriction to a specified real Hamiltonian form commutes with the external automorphisms of $\mathfrak{g}$. This is illustrated on the examples ${\bf D}_{r+1}^{(1)} \to {\bf B}_r^{(1)}$ and ${\bf D}_4^{(1)} \to {\bf G}_2^{(1)}$ using external automorphisms of the corresponding extended Dynkin diagrams.

We show that the $τ$-functions of the regular KP solitons from the totally nonnegative Grassmannians can be expressed by the Riemann theta functions on singular curves. We explicitly write the parameters in the Riemann theta function in terms of those of the KP soliton. We give a short remark on the Prym theta function on a double covering of singular curves. We also discuss the KP soliton on quasi-periodic background, which is obtained by applying the vertex operators to the Riemann theta function.

We study multiple orthogonal polynomials exploiting their explicit determinantal representation in terms of moments. Our reasoning follows that applied to solve the Hermite-Padé approximation and interpolation problems. We study also families of multiple orthogonal polynomials obtained by variation of the measures known from the theory of discrete-time Toda lattice equations. We present determinantal proofs of certain fundamental results of the theory, obtained earlier by other authors in a different setting. We derive also quadratic identities satisfied by the polynomials, which are new elements of the theory. Resulting equations allow to present multiple orthogonal polynomials within the theory of integrable systems.

Dark equations are defined as some kinds of integrable couplings with some fields being homogeneously and linearly coupled to others. In this paper, dark equations are extended in several aspects. Taking the Korteweg-de Vrise (KdV) equation as an example, the dark KdV systems are extended to nonhomogenous forms, nonlinear couplings and graded linear cases. The two-component nonhomogeneous linear coupled dark KdV systems are completely classified. The nonlinear coupled dark KdV systems may be obtained through the decompositions from higher dimensional integrable systems like the B-type KP equation. Graded linear coupled dark KdV systems may be produced by introducing dark parameters (including the Grassmann parameters) to usual integrable systems. Especially, applying the bosonization approach to the integrable systems with fermion fields such as the supersymmetric integrable systems and super-integrable models, infinitely many graded linear dark systems can be generated. Finally, the dark KdV systems are extended to supersymmetric ones. The full classifications for the supersymmetric dark KdV systems are obtained related to two types of usual supersymmetric KdV equations.

The construction of negative grade KdV hierarchy is proposed in terms of a Miura-gauge transformation. Such gauge transformation is employed within the zero curvature representation and maps the Lax operator of the mKdV into its couterpart within the KdV setting. Each odd negative KdV flow is obtained from an odd and its subsequent even negative mKdV flows. The negative KdV flows are shown to inherit the two different vacua structure that characterizes the associated mKdV flows.

The gauge-Miura correspondence establishes a map between the entire KdV and mKdV hierarchies, including positive and also negative flows, from which new relations besides the standard Miura transformation arise. We use this correspondence to classify solutions of the KdV hierarchy in terms of elementary tau functions of the mKdV hierarchy under both zero and nonzero vacua. We illustrate how interesting nonlinear phenomena can be described analytically from this construction, such as ``rogue waves'' of a complex KdV system that corresponds to a limit of a vector nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

A new generalization of the Calogero's rational ($A_N$) many-body quantum model is proposed and studied. The key innovation lies in an asymmetrization of the Calogero's two-body interaction. In the generalized model the exact solvability is preserved while the Calogeero's single coupling constant $C$ is replaced by a certain multiplet of freely variable parameters. The resulting Calogero-like Hamiltonian ceases to be re-arrangement-invariant. As a consequence, the degeneracy of the bound-state spectrum gets partially unfolded.

The Rajeev-Ranken (RR) model is a Hamiltonian system describing screw-type nonlinear waves (screwons) of wavenumber $k$ in a scalar field theory pseudodual to the 1+1D SU(2) principal chiral model. Classically, the RR model based on a quadratic Hamiltonian on a nilpotent/Euclidean Poisson algebra is Liouville integrable. Upon adopting canonical variables in a slightly extended phase space, the model was interpreted as a novel 3D cylindrically symmetric quartic oscillator with a rotational energy. Here, we examine the spectral statistics and dispersion relation of quantized screwons via numerical diagonalization validated by variational and perturbative approximations. We also derive a semiclassical estimate for the cumulative level distribution which compares favorably with the one from numerical diagonalization. The spectrum shows level crossings typical of an integrable system. The $i^{\rm th}$ unfolded nearest neighbor spacings are found to follow Poisson statistics for small $i$. Nonoverlapping spacing ratios also indicate that successive spectral gaps are independently distributed. After displaying universal linear behavior over energy windows of short lengths, the spectral rigidity saturates at a length and value that scales with the square-root of energy. For strong coupling $λ$ and intermediate $k$, we argue that reduced screwon energies can depend only on the product $λk$. Numerically, we find power law dependences on $λ$ and $k$ with an approximately common exponent $2/3$ provided the angular momentum quantum number $l$ is small compared to the number of nodes $n$ in the radial wavefunction. On the other hand, for the ground state $n = l = 0$, the common exponent becomes 1.

The lattice Boussinesq (lBSQ) equation is a member of the lattice Gel'fand-Dikii (lGD) hierarchy, introduced in \cite{NijPapCapQui1992}, which is an infinite family of integrable systems of partial difference equations labelled by an integer $N$, where $N=2$ represents the lattice Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) system, and $N=3$ the Boussinesq system. In \cite{Hiet2011} it was shown that, written as three-component system, the lBSQ system allows for extra parameters which essentially amounts to building the lattice KdV inside the lBSQ. In this paper we show that, on the level of the Lagrangian structure, this boils down to a linear combination of Lagrangians from the members of the lGD hierarchy as was established in \cite{LobbNijGD2010}. The corresponding Lagrangian multiform structure is shown to exhibit a `double zero' structure.

This paper delves into the study of multi-component derivative nonlinear Schrodinger (n-DNLS) equations featuring nonzero boundary conditions. Employing the Darboux transformation (DT) method, we derive higher-order vector rogue wave solutions for the n-DNLS equations. Specifically, we focus on the distinctive scenario where the (n + 1)-order characteristic polynomial possesses an explicit (n + 1)-multiple root. Additionally, we provide an in-depth analysis of the asymptotic behavior and pattern classification inherent to the higher-order vector rogue wave solution of the n-DNLS equation, particularly when one of the internal parameters attains a significant magnitude. These patterns are related to the root structures in the generalized Wronskian-Hermite polynomial hierarchies.

This paper builds upon our recent work, published in Lett. Math. Phys., 112: 94, 2022, where we established that the integrable Volterra lattice on a free associative algebra and the whole hierarchy of its symmetries admits a quantisation dependent on a parameter $ω$. We also uncovered an intriguing aspect: all odd-degree symmetries of the hierarchy admits an alternative, non-deformation quantisation, resulting in a non-commutative algebra for any choice of the quantisation parameter $ω$. In this study, we demonstrate that each equation within the quantum Volterra hierarchy can be expressed in the Heisenberg form. We provide explicit expressions for all quantum Hamiltonians and establish their commutativity. In the classical limit, these quantum Hamiltonians yield explicit expressions for the classical ones of the commutative Volterra hierarchy. Furthermore, we present Heisenberg equations and their Hamiltonians in the case of non-deformation quantisation. Finally, we discuss commuting first integrals, central elements of the quantum algebra, and the integrability problem for periodic reductions of the Volterra lattice in the context of both quantisations.

In the present paper reality conditions for quasi-periodic solutions of the KdV equation are determined completely. As a result, solutions in the form of non-linear waves can be plotted and investigated. The full scope of obtaining finite-gap solutions of the KdV equation is presented. It is proven that the multiply periodic $\wp_{1,1}$-function on the Jacobian variety of a hyperelliptic curve of arbitrary genus serves as the finite-gap solution, the genus coincides with the number of gaps. The subspace of the Jacobian variety where $\wp_{1,1}$, as well as other $\wp$-functions, are bounded and real-valued is found in any genus. This result covers every finite phase space of the KdV hierarchy, and can be extended to other completely integrable equations. A method of effective computation of this type of solutions is suggested, and illustrated in genera $2$ and $3$.

The Benjamin-Ono (BO) equation describes long internal waves of small amplitude in deep fluids. Compared to its counterpart for shallow fluids, the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, the BO equation admits exact solutions for the traveling periodic and solitary waves as well as their interactions expressed in elementary (trigonometric and polynomial) functions. Motivated by a recent progress for the KdV equation, we discover here two scenarios of the soliton-periodic wave interactions which result in the propagation of either elevation (bright) or depression (dark) breathers (periodic in time coherent structures). The existence of two different breathers is related to the band-gap spectrum of the Lax operator associated with the traveling periodic wave. Given a simple structure of the exact solutions in the BO equation, we obtain a closed-form expression for multi-solitons interacting with the traveling periodic wave.

We present a new exact solution to the defocusing modified Korteweg-de Vries equation to describe the interaction of a dark soliton and a traveling periodic wave. The solution (which we refer to as to the dark breather) is obtained by using the Darboux transformation with the eigenfunctions of the Lax system expressed in terms of the Jacobi theta functions. Properties of elliptic functions including the quarter-period translations in the complex plane are applied to transform the solution to the simplest form. We explore the characteristic properties of these dark breathers and show that they propagate faster than the periodic wave (in the same direction) and attain maximal localization at a specific parameter value which is explicitly computed.

In this paper rational solutions of the fifth Painlevé equation are discussed. There are two classes of rational solutions of the fifth Painlevé equation, one expressed in terms of the generalised Laguerre polynomials, which are the main subject of this paper, and the other in terms of the generalised Umemura polynomials. Both the generalised Laguerre polynomials and the generalised Umemura polynomials can be expressed as Wronskians of Laguerre polynomials specified in terms of specific families of partitions. The properties of the generalised Laguerre polynomials are determined and various differential-difference and discrete equations found. The rational solutions of the fifth Painlevé equation, the associated $σ$-equation and the symmetric fifth Painlevé system are expressed in terms of generalised Laguerre polynomials. Non-uniqueness of the solutions in special cases is established and some applications are considered. In the second part of the paper, the structure of the roots of the polynomials are investigated for all values of the parameter. Interesting transitions between root structures through coalescences at the origin are discovered, with the allowed behaviours controlled by hook data associated with the partition. The discriminants of the generalised Laguerre polynomials are found and also shown to be expressible in terms of partition data. Explicit expressions for the coefficients of a general Wronskian Laguerre polynomial defined in terms of a single partition are given.

In this paper we study the equation $$ w^{(4)} = 5 w" (w^2 - w') + 5 w (w')^2 - w^5 + (λz + α)w + γ, $$ which is one of the higher-order Painlevé equations (i.e., equations in the polynomial class having the Painlevé property). Like the classical Painlevé equations, this equation admits a Hamiltonian formulation, Bäcklund transformations and families of rational and special functions. We prove that this equation considered as a Hamiltonian system with parameters $γ/λ= 3 k$, $γ/λ= 3 k - 1$, $k \in \mathbb{Z}$, is not integrable in Liouville sense by means of rational first integrals. To do that we use the Ziglin-Morales-Ruiz-Ramis approach. Then we study the integrability of the second and third members of the $\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{II}}$-hierarchy. Again as in the previous case it turns out that the normal variational equations are particular cases of the generalized confluent hypergeometric equations whose differential Galois groups are non-commutative and hence, they are obstructions to integrability.

In this paper, we derive a general mixed (bright-dark) multi-soliton solution to a one-dimensional multicomponent Yajima-Oikawa (YO) system, i.e., the (M+1)-component YO system comprised of M-component short waves (SWs) and one-component long wave (LW) for all possible combinations of nonlinearity coefficients including positive, negative and mixed types. With the help of the KP-hierarchy reduction method, we firstly construct two types of general mixed N-soliton solution (two-bright-one-dark soliton and one-bright-two-dark one for SW components) to the (3+1)-component YO system in detail. Then by extending the corresponding analysis to the (M+1)-component YO system, a general mixed N-soliton solution in Gram determinant form is obtained. The expression of the mixed soliton solution also contains the general all bright and all dark N-soliton solution as special cases. Besides, the dynamical analysis shows that the inelastic collision can only take place among SW components when at least two SW components have bright solitons in mixed type soliton solution. Whereas, the dark solitons in SW components and the bright soliton in LW component always undergo usual elastic collision.

Using the correspondence between the zero-curvature representations and Gardner deformations for PDE, we construct a Gardner's deformation for the Krasil'shchik-Kersten system. For this, we introduce the new nonlocal variables in such a way that the rules to differentiate them are consistent by virtue of the equations at hand and second, the full system of Krasil'shchik-Kersten's equations and the new rules contains the Korteweg-de Vries equation and classical Gardner's deformation for it. An effective integration method based on the classical solution to the Jacobi inversion problem, using Kleinian ultra-elliptic functions, is presented for quasi-periodic two-phase solutions of the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The two-phase solutions with real quasi-periods are known to form a two-dimensional torus, modulo a circle of complex phase factors, that can be expressed as a ratio of theta functions. In this paper, the two-phase solutions are explicitly parametrized in terms of the branch points on the genus-two Riemann surface of the theta functions. Simple formulas, in terms of the imaginary parts of the branch points, are obtained for the maximum modulus and the minimum modulus of the two-phase solution.

The the mixed Chen-Lee-Liu derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (CLL-NLS) can be considered as simplest model to approximate the dynamics of weakly nonlinear and dispersive waves, taking into account the self-steepnening effect (SSE). The latter effect arises as a higher-order correction of the nonlinear Schrördinger equation (NLS), which is known to describe the dynamics of pulses in nonlinear fiber optics, and constiutes a fundamental part of the generalized NLS. Similar effects are decribed within the framework of the modified NLS, also referred to as the Dysthe equation, in hydrodynamics. In this work, we derive fundamental and higher-order solutions of the CLL-NLS by applying the Darboux transformation (DT). Exact expressions of non-vanishing boundary solitons, breathers and a hierarchy of rogue wave solutions are presented. In addition, we discuss the localization characters of such rogue waves, by characterizing their length and width. In particular, we describe how the localization properties of first-order NLS rogue waves can be modified by taking into account the SSE, presented in the CLL-NLS. This is illustrated by use of an analytical and a graphical method. The results may motivate similar analytical studies, extending the family of the reported rogue wave solutions as well as possible experiments in several nonlinear dispersive media, confirming these theoretical results.

In this paper, we study an integrable system with both quadratic and cubic nonlinearity: $m_t=bu_x+1/2k_1[m(u^2-u^2_x)]_x+1/2k_2(2m u_x+m_xu)$, $m=u-u_{xx}$, where $b$, $k_1$ and $k_2$ are arbitrary constants. This model is kind of a cubic generalization of the Camassa-Holm (CH) equation: $m_t+m_xu+2mu_x=0$. We point out that use of the first integral method ( J.Phys. A :Math. Gen. 35 (2002) 343 ) for solving nonlinear evolution equations gives only particular solutions of equations that model conservative systems. On the other hand, for dissipative dynamical systems, the method leads to incorrect solutions of the equations.

The nonlocal symmetries for the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (mKP) equation are obtained with the truncated Painleve method. The nonlocal symmetries can be localized to the Lie point symmetries by introducing auxiliary dependent variables. The finite symmetry transformations and similarity reductions related with the nonlocal symmetries are computed. The multi-solitary wave solution and interaction solutions among a soliton and the cnoidal waves of the mKP equation are presented. In the meanwhile, the consistent tanh expansion (CTE) method is applied to the mKP equation. The explicit interaction solutions among a soliton and other types of nonlinear waves such as the cnoidal periodic waves and multiple resonant soliton solutions are given.

The aim of this note is to present simple proofs of the completeness of Manakov's integrals for a motion of a rigid body fixed at a point in $\mathbb R^n$, as well as for geodesic flows on a class of homogeneous spaces $SO(n)/SO(n_1)\times\dots\times SO(n_r)$.

We generalize Babelon's approach to equations in dual variables so as to be able to treat new types of operators which we build out of the sub-constituents of the model's monodromy matrix. Further, we also apply Sklyanin's recent monodromy matrix identities so as to obtain equations in dual variables for yet other operators. The schemes discussed in this paper appear to be universal and thus, in principle, applicable to many models solvable through the quantum separation of variables.

We compute the scattering data of the Benjamin-Ono equation for arbitrary rational initial conditions with simple poles. Specifically, we obtain explicit formulas for the Jost solutions and eigenfunctions of the associated spectral problem, yielding an Evans function for the eigenvalues and formulas for the phase constants and reflection coefficient.

B.A. Dubrovin proved that remarkable WDVV associativity equations are integrable systems. In a simplest nontrivial three-component case these equations can be written as a nondiagonalizable hydrodynamic type system equivalent to a symmetric reduction of the three wave interaction and to the matrix Hopf equation. Then E.V. Ferapontov and O.I. Mokhov found a local Hamiltonian structure. Finally E.V. Ferapontov, C.A.P. Galvão, O.I. Mokhov, Ya. Nutku found a second local Hamiltonian structure. Both local Hamiltonian structure are homogeneous of first and third order (respectively) of Dubrovin--Novikov type. In our paper we suggest a special scaling procedure for independent variables applicable for homogeneous nonlinear PDE's, which allows to incorporate an auxiliary parameter $ε$, such that a corresponding \textquotedblleft intermediate\textquotedblright\ system possesses two remarkable limits: a high-frequency limit ($ε\rightarrow \infty $) back to the original system and a dispersionless limit ($ε\rightarrow 0$) which yields diagonalizable integrable hydrodynamic type system. This means that our procedure allows to transform a homogeneous third order local Hamiltonian structure to non-homogeneous of third order. Thus we create an integrable hierarchy equipped by a pair of local Hamiltonian structures, which (both of them) possess a dispersionless limit. Also we show that this bi-Hamiltonian diagonalizable hydrodynamic type system possesses at least two different dispersive integrable extensions (in a framework of B.A. Dubrovin's approach)

The nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation under the box-type initial condition, which models general multiple pulses deviating from pure solitons, is analyzed. Following the approximation by splitting the initial pulse into many small bins [G. Boffetta and A. R. Osborne, J. Comp. Phys. 102, 25 (1992)], we can analyze the Zakharov-Shabat eigenvalue problem to construct transfer matrices connecting the Jost functions in each interval without direct numerical computation. We can obtain analytical expressions for the scattering data that describe interfering radiation emitted from initial pulses. The number of solitons that appear in the final stage is predicted theoretically, and the condition generating an unusual wave such as a double-pole soliton is derived. Numerical analyses under box-type initial conditions are also performed to show that the interplay between the tails from decaying pulses can affect the asymptotic profile.

In this note we present explicitly the construction of the mKdV hierarchy and show that it decomposes into positive and negative graded sub-hierarchies. We extend the construction of the Backlund transformation for the sinh-Gordon model to all other positive and negative odd graded equations of motion generated by the same affine algebraic structure. Some simple examples of solutions are explicitly verified to satisfy, in a universal manner, the Backlund transformations for the first few odd (positive and negative) sub-hierarchies.

The constant curvature analogue on the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic space of the integrable Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ given by $$ \mathcal{H}=\dfrac{1}{2}(p_{1}^{2}+p_{2}^{2})+ Ω\left(q_{1}^{2}+ 4 q_{2}^{2}\right) +α\left(q_{1}^{2}q_{2}+2 q_{2}^{3}\right), $$ where $Ω$ and $α$ are real constants, is revisited. The resulting integrable curved Hamiltonian, $\mathcal{H}_κ$, depends on a parameter $κ$ which is just the curvature of the underlying space and allows one to recover $\mathcal{H}$ under the smooth flat/Euclidean limit $κ\to 0$. This system can be regarded as an integrable cubic perturbation of a specific curved $1:2$ anisotropic oscillator, which was already known in the literature. The Ramani-Dorizzi-Grammaticos (RDG) series of potentials associated to $\mathcal{H}_κ$ is fully constructed, and corresponds to the curved integrable analogues of homogeneous polynomial perturbations of $\mathcal{H}$ that are separable in parabolic coordinates. Integrable perturbations of $\mathcal{H}_κ$ are also fully presented, and they can be regarded as the curved counterpart of integrable rational perturbations of the Euclidean Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$. It will be explicitly shown that the latter perturbations can be understood as the "negative index" counterpart of the curved RDG series of potentials. Furthermore, it is shown that the integrability of the curved Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_κ$ is preserved under the simultaneous addition of curved analogues of "positive" and "negative" families of RDG potentials.

The second-type derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLSII) equation was introduced as an integrable model in 1979. Very recently, the DNLSII equation has been shown by an experiment to be a model of the evolution of optical pulses involving self-steepening without concomitant self-phase-modulation. In this paper the $n$-fold Darboux transformation (DT) $T_n$ of the coupled DNLSII equations is constructed in terms of determinants. Comparing with the usual DT of the soliton equations, this kind of DT is unusual because $T_n$ includes complicated integrals of seed solutions in the process of iteration. By a tedious analysis, these integrals are eliminated in $T_n$ except the integral of the seed solution. Moreover, this $T_n$ is reduced to the DT of the DNLSII equation under a reduction condition. As applications of $T_n$, the explicit expressions of soliton, rational soliton, breather, rogue wave and multi-rogue wave solutions for the DNLSII equation are displayed.

We examine the effect of dissipation on traveling waves in nonlinear dispersive systems modeled by Benjamin- Bona- Mahony (BBM)-like equations. In the absence of dissipation the BBM-like equations are found to support soliton and compacton/anticompacton solutions depending on whether the dispersive term is linear or nonlinear. We study the influence of increasing nonlinearity of the medium on the soliton- and compacton dynamics. The dissipative effect is found to convert the solitons either to undular bores or to shock-like waves depending on the degree of nonlinearity of the equations. The anticompacton solutions are also transformed to undular bores by the effect of dissipation. But the compactons tend to vanish due to viscous effects. The local oscillatory structures behind the bores and/or shock-like waves in the case of solitons and anticompactons are found to depend sensitively both on the coefficient of viscosity and solution of the unperturbed problem.

New extensions of the KP and modified KP hierarchies with self-consistent sources are proposed. The latter provide new generalizations of $(2+1)$-dimensional integrable equations, including the DS-III equation and the $N$-wave problem. Furthermore, we recover a system that contains two types of the KP equation with self-consistent sources as special cases. Darboux and binary Darboux transformations are applied to generate solutions of the proposed hierarchies.

The perturbed Kepler problem is shown to be a bi-Hamiltonian system in spite of the fact that the graph of the Hamilton function is not a hypersurface of translation, which is against a necessary condition for the existence of the bi-Hamiltonian structure according to the Fernandes theorem. In fact, both the initial and perturbed Kepler systems are isochronous systems and, therefore, the Fernandes theorem cannot be applied to them.

The phase topology of the classical integrable cases of the rigid body dynamics is investigated including the cases of Euler-Zhukovsky, Goryachev-Chaplygin-Sretenski and Kovalevskaya. All types of bifurcations of two-dimensional tori in these problems are revealed.

Two integrable differential-difference equations are derived from a (2+1)-dimensional modified Heisenberg ferromagnetic equation and a resonant nonlinear Schröinger equation respectively. Multi-soliton solutions of the resulted semi-discrete systems are given through Hirota's bilinear method. Elastic and inelastic interaction behavior between two solitons are studied through the asymptotic analysis. Dynamics of two-soliton solutions are shown with graphs.

In the present paper, we mainly study the integrable semi-discretization of a multi-component short pulse equation. Firstly, we briefly review the bilinear equations for a multi-component short pulse equation proposed by Matsuno (J. Math. Phys. \textbf{52} 123705) and reaffirm its $N$-soliton solution in terms of pfaffians. Then by using a Bäcklund transformation of the bilinear equations and defining a discrete hodograph (reciprocal) transformation, an integrable semi-discrete multi-component short pulse equation is constructed. Meanwhile, its $N$-soliton solution in terms of pfaffians is also proved.

The tropical periodic Toda lattice (trop p-Toda) is a dynamical system attracting attentions in the area of the interplay of integrable systems and tropical geometry. We show that the Young diagrams associated with trop p-Toda given by two very different definitions are identical. The first definition is given by a Lax representation of the discrete periodic Toda lattice, and the second one is associated with a generalization of the Kerov-Kirillov-Reshetikhin bijection in the combinatorics of the Bethe ansatz. By means of this identification, it is shown for the first time that the Young diagrams given by the latter definition are preserved under time evolution. This result is regarded as an important first step in clarifying the iso-level set structure of this dynamical system in general cases, i.e. not restricted to generic cases.

We give a description of recently introduced Doubrov-Ferapontov general heavenly equation in terms of closed differential Plücker two-form, rationally depending on the spectral parameter. We demonstrate that general heavenly equation is an important generating equation in the context of Takasaki hyper-Kähler hierarchy, and it is also directly connected to hyper-Kähler geometry through the Gindikin construction. We develop a $\bar{\partial}$-dressing scheme and introduce a formula for the potential satisfying the general heavenly equation. Multidimensional generalization is also outlined.

We classify the Lie symmetries of variable coefficient Gardner equations (called also the combined KdV-mKdV equations). In contrast to the particular results presented in Molati and Ramollo (2012) we perform the exhaustive group classification. It is shown that the complete result can be achieved using either the gauging of arbitrary elements of class by the equivalence transformations or the method of mapping between classes. As by-product of the second approach the complete group classification of a class of variable coefficient mKdV equations with forcing term is derived. Advantages of the use of the generalized extended equivalence group in comparison with the usual one are also discussed.

We harness the freedom in the celebrated gauge transformation approach to generate dark solitons of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) type equations. The new approach which is purely algebraic could prove to be very useful, particularly in the construction of vector dark solitons in the fields of nonlinear optics, plasma physics and Bose-Einstein condensates. We have employed this algebraic method to coupled Gross- Pitaevskii (GP) and NLS equations and obtained dark solitons.

A method of the formal diagonalization of the discrete linear operator with a parameter is studied. In the case when the operator provides a Lax operator for a nonlinear quad system the formal diagonalization method allows one to describe effectively conservation laws and generalized symmetries for this system. Asymptotic representation of the Lax operators eigenfunctions are constructed and infinite series of conservation laws are described for the quad system connected with $A^{(1)}_3$ affine Lie algebra, for the modified discrete Boussinesq system and for the discrete Tzitzeica equation. For a newly found multiquadratic discrete model conservation laws and several generalized symmetries are presented.

We consider equations that formally resemble a matrix Riemann (or Hopf) equation in the framework of bidifferential calculus. With different choices of a first-order bidifferential calculus, we obtain a variety of equations, including a semi-discrete and a fully discrete version of the matrix Riemann equation. A corresponding universal solution-generating method then either yields a (continuous or discrete) Cole-Hopf transformation, or leaves us with the problem of solving Riemann equations (hence an application of the hodograph method). If the bidifferential calculus extends to second order, solutions of a system of `Riemann equations' are also solutions of an equation that arises, on the universal level of bidifferential calculus, as an integrability condition. Depending on the choice of bidifferential calculus, the latter can represent a number of prominent integrable equations, like self-dual Yang-Mills, as well as matrix versions of the two-dimensional Toda lattice, Hirota's bilinear difference equation, (2+1)-dimensional NLS, KP and Davey-Stewartson equations. For all of them, a recent (non-isospectral) binary Darboux transformation result in bidifferential calculus applies, which can be specialized to generate solutions of the associated `Riemann equations'. For the latter, we clarify the relation between these specialized binary Darboux transformations and the aforementioned solution-generating method. From (arbitrary size) matrix versions of the `Riemann equations' associated with an integrable equation, possessing a bidifferential calculus formulation, multi-soliton-type solutions of the latter can be generated. This includes `breaking' multi-soliton-type solutions of the self-dual Yang-Mills and the (2+1)-dimensional NLS equation, which are parametrized by solutions of Riemann equations.

In this paper we apply the formal Inverse Spectral Transform for integrable dispersionless PDEs arising from the commutation condition of pairs of one-parameter families of vector fields, recently developed by S. V. Manakov and one of the authors, to one distinguished class of equations, the so-called Dunajski hierarchy. We concentrate, for concreteness, i) on the system of PDEs characterizing a general anti-self-dual conformal structure in neutral signature, ii) on its first commuting flow, and iii) on some of their basic and novel reductions. We formally solve their Cauchy problem and we use it to construct the longtime behavior of solutions, showing, in particular, that unlike the case of soliton PDEs, different dispersionless PDEs belonging to the same hierarchy of commuting flows evolve in time in very different ways, exhibiting either a smooth dynamics or a gradient catastrophe at finite time.

In the present paper, we propose a complex short pulse equation and a coupled complex short equation to describe ultra-short pulse propagation in optical fibers. They are shown to be integrable due to the existence of Lax pairs and infinite number of conservation laws. Furthermore, we construct their multi-soliton solutions in terms of pfaffians by virtue of Hirota bilinear method. One- and two-soliton solutions are investigated in details, showing favorable properties in modeling ultra-short pulses with a few optical cycles. Especially, same as the coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equation, interactions between two solitons are basically inelastic, which deserve further study and has potential applications.

In this paper, to begin with, we review six different analytical methods which are widely used to derive symmetries, integrating factors, multipliers, Darboux polynomials and integrals of second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We illustrate the algorithm behind each method by considering a nonlinear oscillator equation as an example. In the second part of this paper, we examine the interconnections between these methods. We establish a road map between extended Prelle-Singer procedure with all other methods cited above and thereby demonstrate the interplay between Lie point symmetries, $λ$-symmetries, adjoint symmetries, null forms, integrating factors, Darboux polynomials, and Jacobi multipliers of second order integrable ODEs. The interconnections are illustrated with the same example finally.

Following Sklyanin's proposal in the periodic case, we derive the generating function of the Gaudin Hamiltonians with boundary terms. Our derivation is based on the quasi-classical expansion of the linear combination of the transfer matrix of the XXX Heisenberg spin chain and the central element, the so-called Sklyanin determinant. The corresponding Gaudin Hamiltonians with boundary terms are obtained as the residues of the generating function. By defining the appropriate Bethe vectors which yield strikingly simple off shell action of the generating function, we fully implement the algebraic Bethe ansatz, obtaining the spectrum of the generating function and the corresponding Bethe equations.
